In a world that is becoming increasingly divided, we urgently need a scientific theory that teaches us how to reverse polarization cycles and turn conflict into cooperation.

Good stuff in here. Parts of this reminded me of Non-violent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg which should be required reading for all adults. Bobby, I wonder what you think about the fact that many worldviews actually encourage Mind 1 and value other things above humanity, peace, progress, and survival-- things like honor, pride, holiness, sacred texts, God/Allah/deities, not to mention money and power. Certain memes/worldviews hold a lot of power over people, and if those memes are rooted deep enough (in a person or a community) many people will never be willing or even able to go to Mind 2 on a lot of topics.
I believe that most everyone has experienced some form of "oh, I get it now."
Life educates, but most of these awakenings only influence a small aspect of one's total perspective depending on the rigidnees of their personality, and a real "shock" can either open or close doors.
This article embodies “meta mind,” Bobby! It bridges gaps in psychology paradigms. Each school of thought is an attempt at a more accurate model of reality. The Game Theory of Mind strikes me as a “both and…” approach to debate/dialogue wherein change and growth inevitably result from consideration of the other. People stay mentally flexible when they can make this approach a way of life. Similarly, paradigms must expand or they’ll become artifacts. What does this tell us about the Paradigm of Emergence as a unifying worldview? Is it a meta-paradigm? I’m fascinated by the idea of a paradigm so flexible it doesn’t need a contrasting paradigm to push its expansion.
Bobby, it’s refreshing to see prescriptive psychology merge with philosophy. I’m reminded of Richard Shusterman’s somaesthetics. It helped me merge studies in phenomenology and cultural analysis which led to an integration with ethics: In each complicated moment, how can I most accurately assess my circumstances and act in accord with the pro-social impetus that keeps humanity intact? To be certain, it requires minds 1, 2, and 3 as you describe them (and many gradations within each). I appreciate this practical approach and encourage a collective expansion of our Road to Omega project that accounts for the difficulties in many scenarios where these Game Theory of Mind strategies can evolve for greater effect.
One particularly difficult scenario you identify is the way varying perspectives on reality put worldviews–and the people who hold them–at odds. Here, “reality” can refer to the big picture paradigms like religions or economic strategies. And these big-picture “realities” are built on specific recordings of history or reporting of scientific findings. When the specific fragments of reality are inaccurate the butterfly effect you mention ripples out through humanity. People become confused and it’s much harder for them to come to terms.
One prescriptive section in this article states:
“The Game Theory of Mind framework would suggest that public figures like politicians or influencers release something like a “core beliefs statement,” which would clarify their vision for the world and provide a context for otherwise ambiguous statements. This reduces the audience’s uncertainty and allows the public to better evaluate the alignment between the said intent and the actions or statements of these figures. This won’t eliminate deception, but it will make it easier to spot.”
If our society agreed on the details of a core belief statement and considered it essential for public discourse, it would go a long way toward healing the distrust many people feel toward authorities in the form of government officials, journalists, business leaders, scientists, legal professionals, YouTube makeup marketers–anyone who is an influencer. We should wear our biases on our sleeves! And we should be free to adjust our worldviews through good-faith debate. For this, we’d need a great deal more transparency–and a great deal less deception–from authorities who hold the public record. Freedom of information should not be a barrier that keeps society in the dark for decades before the reality of a collectively-induced situation comes to light. When this happens, people are entrenched in terror mindsets by the time corrective information is available.
This is what I come here for. GToM is a useful contextualization for some common negotiating best practices and provides an added insight of scale from individual to population.
I'm reminded of a chapter from Chapter 7 of Making Things Work. I think there could be an expansion to this essay to more specifically address competition and cooperation cycles in the context of evolution and setting up an environment where evolution can take place.
I enjoyed this Bobbie, it relates very much to work we have been doing on the ground in terms of achieving harmonic mind states to bring forth all-win dynamics. It involves a lot of emotional intelligence and transformation, which is where the blocks to unitive mind occur in my lived experience.
Carl Jung's shadow work addresses the 'othering' of mind - where we have archetypal states of perception and cognition, but the threat of the 'other' and our own existential threat as a result maintains rivalrous mindsets. Turbulence is also very sexual because of the genderisation of perception (also captured by Jung's theory of anima/animus) and the inherent co-creative/pro-creative challenges this presents at deeply unconscious levels to men and women.
There is only one all win-game mantra for me, which is that 'all perspectives are equal'. Until we can achieve this form of harmonisation, the annihilation threat remains and so does war and competition as reflection. Jung was ahead of the game in his insights, and I still maintain he gave us the tools to reach omega at the mind shift level.
I personally believe that the larger worldview is understanding there is only one mind fractaling into apparent parts, and thus all are naturally unified in the heart, which is the ultimate metta mind which is tuned to our inherent unity. Jung had stuff to say about this too.
I am looking forward to when we finally get to talk (ghost of Poppins)
